We just so happened to stumble upon this brand new park and splash pad (opened in June, 2014) while we were “walking in Memphis” (Ha! I had to do that…I love that song). We wanted to wander down to the waterfront with our kids and to our pleasant surprise we found the splash pad at Beale Street Landing.
At first we didn’t even know it was a splash park until someone told us that you have to trigger the sprinklers by pushing these buttons on the ground in various locations around the park.
While there are no traditional playground elements like swings (though there is a small, metal slide), our kids still had a blast running over the little hills and through the giant catfish tunnel. Every time I think my kids will be bored with a playground that doesn’t have a whole lot, they surprise me by having a blast just running the hills, even when the water wasn’t turned on.
The view of the waterfront is really nice; and, if you are lucky you may even get to see The American Queen or the Queen of the Mississippi dock here.
If you need restrooms, you will need to go into the Beale Street Landing building. Parking is not so convenient, though. To park right there, you will need to pay. Or, you can park a little further away possibly for free or a little cheaper.
